Fantail Baby Blanket Pattern

So you may have seen my YouTube tutorial on how to make this stitch and how to turn it into a blanket but here’s the written pattern for those of you who prefer the written instruction. Let’s embrace the cosiness with the Fantail Stitch.

Here you will find the baby blanket crochet pattern written out for you, however if you would like to make the blanket in any other size I have all of that wonderful stuff written in my paid pattern which you can find here.

So let’s get into this pattern!

Abbreviations:

ch – Chain

sc – Single Crochet

sp – Space

Sk – Skip

dc – Double Crochet

hdc – Half double crochet

You will need:

– Aran/Worsted weight yarn – 500-600g

– Crochet hook (5mm) 

– Yarn needle 

– Scissors 

The pattern:

Start by chaining 142

  1. 1 sc into the second ch from the hook, 1 sc into the next ch. *Sk 3 chains, work a fan (3dc’s, ch 1, 3dc’s) into the next ch, skip 3 ch’s, 1 sc into the next, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc into the next* Repeat *to* to the last 9 ch’s. Skip 3 chains, put a fan into the next ch, skip 3 ch’s and put 1 sc in each of the last 2 ch’s. Turn
  2. Ch 1, (ch 1 doesnt count as the first st) 2 hdc’s into the first st *ch 3, 1 sc into the ch space of the fan, ch 3, work (hdc, ch 1, hdc) into the next ch 1 sp between two sc’s.* Repeat *to* to the last 10 sts. Sk the next st, ch 3, 1 sc into ch sp at the top of the fan, ch 3, sk next sc, put 2 hdc’s into the last st. Turn
  3. Ch 2 (counts as the first dc), put 3 dc’s into the same space as the ch 2. *1 sc into the next ch 3 sp, ch 1, 1 sc into the next ch 3 sp, put a fan (3dc’s, ch 1, 3dc’s) into the next ch 1 space between 2 hdc’s* repeat to the last 2 ch 3 spaces. 1 sc into the next ch 3 space, ch 1, 1 sc into the last ch 3 sp, sk the next hdc and work 4 dc’s into the last st. Turn
  4. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as the first st), 1 sc into the first st, *ch 3, (1 hdc, ch 1, 1 hdc) into the next ch 1 sp, ch 3, 1 sc into the ch 1 at the centre of the fan* repeat to the end of the row, working the last sc into the last st. Turn.
  5. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as the first st), 1 sc into the first st, *put 1 sc into the ch 3 space, work a fan (3dc’s, ch 1, 3dc’s) into the next ch 1 sp, 1 sc into the next ch 3 sp, ch 1* repeat to the last ch 3 sp, put 1 sc into the last ch 3 sp and then 1 sc into the last st. Turn

Now repeat row 2 – 5 until it measures 36 inches.
